Who is FoS and what do you do?
Founded in 2010 by Jennifer Blanco and John Earles, Field of Study (formerly Spindletop Design) is a brand and design consultancy.
We work with organizations to establish voice, mythologies, strategies, and assets that deliver on the brand promise.
Brand strategy, logo and visual identity creation or refinement, brand systems, packaging, website design and development, signage, interior spaces, and environmental graphics are all areas in which we work.
Why work with us?
Because we help our clients succeed. Through smart branding and good design, we link organizations with their audience, help them tell their story, meet goals and objectives, and provide tangible value to their brand.
Our combined experience and extensive education in design and art is what makes us unique. We adapt and approach each project individually, tirelessly in search of the timeless and new.
With our help, our clients have turned their ideas into solid and sustainable businesses that—in most cases—lead their respective market.
Additionally, through our sister company, Workhorse Printmakers, we assist our clients and other designers with highly-produced print materials. We are stronger designers because we know materials and production, and regularly see projects through from inception to completion.
What is your process?
Our goals when working with a client are to establish strategies and tools that build engagement, communicate value to a target audience, and ultimately help accomplish clear objectives.
We do this through discussion, research, and strategic, intelligent thinking—a delicate balance between beauty and function. While visually attractive, the design solutions we create through this process first and foremost solve problems.
Who do you work with?
We consult with individuals, organizations, and business that are believers in the power of design and seek to create distinctive, smart, and engaging brand experiences around their products. Their understanding is paired with the resources—both financial and time—to achieve real success.
We do not accept speculative work. Learn what ‘spec’ work is and industry standards surrounding it here.
How do I get started?
Contact us by email to schedule a time to discuss your project details and needs. If you are in Houston, we’d love to have you visit our studio in the historic Houston Heights.
Additionally, more specific information such as what kind of project you have, when is best to meet, and more can be shared with us by clicking “By Appointment Only” at the top of this page, or scrolling down and completing the form.
We will respond in a timely manner and set up an appointment to discuss your project via phone or in person meeting if it looks like we might be the perfect fit for your project.
How long will this take?
Generally, the creation of a brand can require anywhere from two to six months from project kick-off to receipt of production ready artwork. Websites, packaging, or signage and environmental graphics will extend the timeline based on the complexity of deliverables and scope of work.
Please keep in mind, we provide a specialized, focused service as a deliberately small but highly capable team. We are often booked in advance for new clients, so please take this into account when planning timelines.
Can my group visit or can you speak to my group?
Yes. We love to discuss design and what we do and when possible, are happy to take time out of our schedule to do so. Send us an email and let us know what you have in mind.
Are you hiring?
We’re always looking to meet and support new talent. If you are an avid researcher, thinker, learner, lover of all things design—send us an email with a resume, PDF or link to your portfolio, and a note on how you can make a contribution to our team.
